Table Tennis Enthusiasts Hold Mini-Tournament at K of C Recreation Center

November 15th, 2009 by anyajulia

A friendly table tennis or ping pong competition between “oldies” and “young ones” was held at the K of C Recreation Center on November 8, 2009. The minor tournament was organized by M.r Reuel “Opong” Causin and was participated by players from various towns in Bohol. The event was partly sponsored by Philippe Chew, an accomplished chef who provided Thai Lemon chicken and chop suey to all participants. Mr. Chew is a ‘die hard’ ping pong player himself and has been an enthusiast since his school days.

Table tennis is a sport that is also a good excercise and improves hand-eye coordination for the players. It is a sport that can be played by 6 year olds as well as by “oldies”. It is played all over the world and has been used as a tool for diplomacy in the 70’s when the US and China were fostering better relations. The game helps develop team building, mental and manual dexterity and leadership among the youth.

The organizers and sponsors encourages the youth to engage in table tennis to help them live healthier lives and avoid the menace of drugs and other vices. The sport is easy to learn and it is not expensive to get started. At the K of C recreation center, players only need to pay the very reasonable hourly rental of the tables and all equipment are provided.
