www.aka.name — A Filipino Developed SMS Driven Name Directory and Micro Blog Site

May 17th, 2009 by admin

AKA is an interesting system developed by Saklolo.Net, a Filipino owned company based in Manila, and has the potential to become the next big thing in the IT world.  The idea is to provide a way to quickly get directory information based on information provided by the members via SMS or on the website.  By using a mobile phone, one can update his AKA directory entry or update his micro blog.   A micro blog looks very similar to Twitter updates and is contained withing the user’s AKA micro site.

The feature to connect to your Facebook account was recently added and provided an interesting capability to update your Facebook status via SMS.

The website has an unconventional URL: www.aka.name, but packs a very responsive application that provides a simple interface.  Registration is easy and requires the user to have a mobile phone number where the temporary password will be sent.  The mobile number now becomes a means to update AKA via text.  Once registered, the user can update his micro site and micro blogs.

Users may view their information at www.aka.name/NAME where NAME is the user name created during registration.  An example of a completely setup directory and micro blog is:  http://www.aka.name/marie

AKA is still in beta version as of this writing but should AKA become successful and popular when released, it would help if your name was registered there first.  Login to www.aka.name and register now.
