Bohol ICT Council Prepares for 2009 Activities

March 15th, 2009 by anyajulia

The Bohol ICT council completed its planning workshop on March 5, 2009 at JJ’s Seafoods. Majority of the council members and officers attended the workshop and Mrs. Linda Paredes was the facilitator. During the workshop, the council reviewed its 2008 initiatives while Leah Tirol-Magno, the council chairperson, presented IT trends worldwide as well as the ICT direction at the national level.

Major achievements of the council since it was first organized in April 2008 are the launching of the council on July 24, 2008 at the Prawn Farm of Island City Mall and participation in the 1st Philippine Open Source Summit on June 23 to 24, 2008. The council was also involved in various visits in Bohol by potential BPO or business process outsourcing firms who have shown keen interest in making Bohol as their next location.

In January 2009, the Bohol ICT Council finally completed its SEC registration and this paves way for the council to engage in more activities and initiatives that will significantly help make Bohol a destination of choice for business process outsourcing and call center operations. Plans for the year 2009 include an incubation hub for BPO and call center which would be supported by a donation of 15 computers from a large software firm, closer tie-up with various government agencies engaged in employment and placement and academe-industry linkage to help address the gap between academic curriculum and industry requirements in ICT.
