The technology available nowadays has really made the world a smaller place. The recent launching of DYRD-AM Worldwide proves this point very well with our fellow Boholanos in many parts of the world pouring out their hearts in expressing their gratitude in making them feel near home. It also proves an important point and that is Bohol is capable of doing information technology (IT) based ventures on a worldwide scale.
IT related jobs are scarce in Bohol, even in Tagbilaran City, because Bohol have only a few enterprises large enough to require several full-time IT staff. In order to generate more IT related jobs in Bohol, we should look beyond our beautiful island for customers but do the work locally. And this is possible with the Internet and currently available technology. In fact, there are already individuals I personally know who are earning respectable income by just putting up informative and useful websites. They get their revenue by posting advertisements on the websites they maintain.
One important advantage of IT over other industries is that IT jobs usually just require a computer and a good Internet service, meaning capital required and operating expense can be minimal. There are no waste products,no raw materials and no inventory. And the market potential is huge… literally the whole world. The only question might be: what should I sell? And I think the best answer is: services.
There are several companies in the US alone that outsource maintenance of websites, marketing leads generation, drafting, customer support via email, chat or voice and a lot more. I think what’s missing is the marketplace where people in Bohol can offer their services and companies around the world can shop for the services they need. Bohol already has lots of talent and hundreds of graduates annually but unfortunately many of them are forced to look for jobs in other provinces if not abroad.
